Off-Hook Signaling

Description

When a user is busy on a call, Off-Hook Signaling audibly indicates that another caller is trying to get through. Off-Hook Signaling helps important callers get through, without waiting in line for the called extension to become free. After the user hears the off-hook signal, they can use other system features (such as Hold or Park) to process their active call and then answer the waiting call.

Off-Hook Signaling for Outside Calls

While a keyset user is on a handset call, Off-Hook Signaling from an outside call can be either Camp-On tones or muted Off-Hook Ringing. The user can press VOLUME up or down to adjust the volume of the Off-Hook Ringing. While on a Handsfree call, Off-Hook Signaling is limited to Camp-On tones. See Call Waiting / Camp-On for more.

The following chart shows when the two types of Off-Hook Signaling occur. Note that Camp-On tones occur for an extension when they are the exclusive recipient of the call (such as a DIL).
Off-Hook Ringing 1 Camp-On Tones 2
Key Ring Yes No
Transferred Outside Call Yes Yes
Direct Inward Line Yes Yes
Transfer from Voice Mail (UTRF) Yes Yes
Call Coverage Key Yes No
Group Call Pickup Key Yes No
1 For Off-Hook ringing, 2116-03: Off Hook Signaling for Incoming Outside Calls Stations: Config: Options: Off Hook Signal (2116): OHS Lines] = 2.
2 For Camp-On tones, 2116-03: Off Hook Signaling for Incoming Outside Calls Stations: Config: Options: Off Hook Signal (2116): OHS Lines] = 1.

Off-Hook Signaling for Intercom Calls

While a keyset user is on a handset call, Off-Hook Signaling from an Intercom caller can be either Camp-On tones or Voice Over. To Camp-On, the caller pushes Camp On (Camp). To Voice Over, the caller pushes Voice Over (Vovr). If the keyset user is on a Handsfree call, they can receive only Camp-On tones. Off-Hook Ringing for Intercom calls is not available.

See Call Waiting / Camp-On and Voice Over for more.

Off-Hook Signaling for Hotline Calls

The keyset has a separate option to control Off-Hook Signaling for calls from a Hotline partner that pressed their Hotline key to call. The Off-Hook Signaling options are the same as for Intercom calls (Camp-On or Voice Over), but are set up separately. If the Hotline partner dials directly (instead of pressing the Hotline key), the keyset uses the normal Intercom caller setting.
