Viewing System Logs

You can view system logs in the System Information content control.

To view system logs:

1. In the navigation area, select System Information – System Information.

2. Click View system logs in the Software pane. The Log files tab in the Logs content control appears. Each log displays the name of the log file, the current size of the file in kilobytes, and the date and time the file was last modified.

The following list shows the descriptions of the Log files tab in the Logs window:

• Call Processing

  Contains engineering level details from the call processing application. This information is useful to engineering when a system is having problems.

• Database Changes

  Provides details on changes to DB Programming.

• DEI

  Contains engineering level details from the Digital Equipment Interface (DEI) application. This application is responsible for bringing up and controlling all data to/from all cards installed in the DEIs.

• Dual T1/E1/PRI Module

  Contains engineering level details from the dual T1 board application that controls the T1 framer hardware.

• Log Archive

  There are three types of archives:

  • intl_app_logs.tgz: Copy of the volatile log files maintained in /var/log/intl during system reboot. Only one copy is kept.

  • 5000_log_xx: Archive file containing logs that have been downloaded through System Administration & Diagnostics. This file is deleted from the node after a successful download. However, if for some reason it is not deleted, the file is displayed under this log category. Note that xx in the file name is a unique id used to identify the file.

  • <node>_<system type>_<start date and time>_<ending date and time>_<filename identifier and type>.tgz: In a controller with a Processing Server (PS-1) and Processor Expansion Card (PEC), the Log Archive file includes all of the System and Application files from both the RAM and the 5000 CP compact flash-type memory card.

• Loop Start

  Contains engineering level details from the loop start applications that control the analog loop start hardware.

• NTP Synchronization

  Contains output from the Network Time Protocol (NTP) application. This log shows the status of all NTP requests.

• Onboard TFTP Server

  Contains output from the onboard TFTP server.

• Processor Module/Processor Expansion Card

  There are two types of log files:

  • ipra_app_7.log: Contains engineering level details from the IP Resource Application (IPRA) log for the IPRA responsible for the main digital signal processors (DSPs) on the 5000 CP. The log shows IP phones connecting to the system as well as other information associated with this application.

  • ipra_app_9.log: Contains engineering level details from the IPRA log for the IPRA responsible for the expansion DSPs on the 5000 CP. The log shows information associated with this application.

• Single Line

  Contains engineering level details from the single line applications that control the analog single line hardware.

• SIP

  There are two types of log files for SIP peers:

  • CP SIP: Contains SIP message and SIP peer information.

  • CP History: Contains SIP peer message information depending on the SIP View option.

• System

  The following system log file types are available:

  • dmesg: Shows the message buffer of the kernel.

  • mail.mainlog: Shows e-mail details from the e-mail application on the system. This file is useful to review if the system has issues sending or receiving e-mail.

  • syslog: Shows any system level messages that are sent to the “syslog.”

• System Health Report

  Contains 5000 CP system information and statistics that is e-mailed to the desired location daily. This feature is intended for support personnel, not for end-customers. The information in this report helps the recipient to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with the 5000 CP.

• System Resource Application

  Contains engineering level details from the resource command handler application. This application is responsible for the on-board DSP, front panel Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), as well as all Time Division Multiplex (TDM) audio connections on the system.

• Voice Mail (BS or PS-1 AWS; depending on if you are running UVM)

  Contains the Avdap log for the UVM application.

• Watchdog

  Displays periodic system monitor, that runs each day, and verifies the following essential system components used by the health report:

  • system configuration file integrity

  • system diskspace availability

To refresh log information:

Click (Refresh logs).

To download log files:

Click Downloading/Deleting Log Files.
