Nodes are represented with a single border that contains a node number, a node name, an icon representing the system type, (5000) or (Axxess), a voice mail status if there is voice mail setup, an IP link status if there is an IP connection, and a T1 link status if there is a T1 connection.

The node statuses are represented by the color of the node:

• White: The node is up.

• Red: The node is down.

• Gray: The node is unknown.

Tooltip>>Moving the pointer over a node or a node group shows the node or node group information. The node information includes the node number, description, status, and IP address. The node group information contains statuses representing all of the nodes in the group.

 

A node group is made up of several nodes that are grouped in the same group. Grouping several nodes in a group provides a convenient way to view the network. It also allows you to organize the network to avoid a “cluttered” graph. Node groups display the name of the group, and the color of the group indicates the highest-severity color of the members of the group. Node group status colors are:

• Red: There are nodes that are down and/or links that are permanently busy.

• Yellow: The connection links are busy.

• Gray: There are unknown nodes.

• White: Everything is OK.

Node groups are represented with borders that are staggered on top of each other. You can click on a node group to display all nodes that are in the group, and the breadcrumbs will change to reflect the path to the chosen group as shown below. Breadcrumbs are navigational links to groups that appear below the title bar. They provide a hierarchical path to assist you in orienting yourself within groups.

Tooltip>>Moving the pointer over a node group shows the node names, node statuses, and link statuses (if there are links that are not idle) in the group.

 

Lines with labels between the nodes indicate networking connections between the nodes. Each label represents an IP or T1 connection. The link statuses are represented in three different colors:

• Red: The link is permanently busy.

• Yellow: The link is busy.

• Black: The link is idle.

Because the network layout is saved on a per network group basis, the nodes that are in the same network group are able to share the same layout. The network layout will not be saved until the connection is assigned to a network group.

To configure the network layout, the connection must be in a network group. If the current connection is not in a network group, the Networking Information content control displays a message to explain this constraint. Follow the instructions below to put the connection in a network group.

To put the connection in a network group:

1. Click Put in network group.

2. The option expands to show the programmed network group list. Do one of the following:

o      Select the network group you want to use.

o      Select Manage network groups to edit network groups.

When the connection is put in a network group, the message disappears, and the network layout is updated.

 

If there are nodes that are not in a network layout, an alert icon appears.

To add node(s) to a network group:

Click (alert icon). A Setup Network Layout window appears allowing you to add nodes and arrange the layout.
