General Tab

You can configure how the System Administration & Diagnostics application behaves on the computer in the General tab.

To configure the General tab:

1. Click (Setup) in the main window, and then select Options. The Option dialog box appears.

2. Select the General tab.

3. Select the user type that you want to use from the User type drop-down list. The available types are:

   • System Administrator (default): Includes end users and field technicians.

   • Mitel Support: Includes technical support personnel.

   • Reporting User: Intended to be used by "business-level" users who are not system administrators. When this type is selected, the main UI is simplified to show just the Reporting tab. In addition, the System management tools button and the System Monitoring section are hidden.

Based on the user type, the user interface is customized for the user type. The settings for each user type apply to all system connections.

4. Program the settings as described below:

   • Run System Administration & Diagnostics when I log on to Windows

     Select this option to start the System Administration & Diagnostics application when you log into Microsoft Windows. The application will start in the same mode it was last close. It is disabled by default.

   • Always prompt before saving SSL certificates

     You can configure the application to display a security alert message when saving the SSL certificate, or if it is not recognized. You can also choose not to display the security alert message.

      

     

   • Enable desktop alerts

     Determine whether or not to display desktop alerts in the lower right corner of the screen (above the System Tray). It is enabled (selected) by default. See Desktop Alerts for details about desktop alerts.

     To disable the option:

     Clear the Enable desktop alerts check box.

   • Always use latest compatible DB Programming version

     Determine whether or not to launch the latest version of DB Programming when launching an online DB Programming and when multiple versions of DB Programming are installed that are compatible with a system. It is enabled (selected) by default. If the option is disabled, you can choose a version that you want to run if there are multiple versions of DB Programming.

     To disable the option:

     Clear the Always use latest compatible DB Programming version check box.

   • Display dates and times in my local time zone

     Because you can view data (for example, in Embedded Reporting) across time zones, you have the option of viewing reporting data in your local time or in the system time. It is set to the system time zone by default. The following data will always show in system time:

     • Log file contents

     • Message Print output

      NOTE: If you change the time in DB Programming, the data falling outside of the seven-day reporting period related to the new time will be lost.

      

   • Maximum disk space used for logging

     Set the amount of disk space on the computer used for log files. The available range is 2 MB through 200 MB; the default value is 20 MB. When the maximum disk space is reached, the oldest logs are overwritten. You have an option to disable logging. The application creates a set of log files for each application instance. This setting is for all instances combined.

     To change the setting:

     Type the value you want to use, and then click OK.

     To save log files and settings:

     1. Click Save Logs. The Save As dialog box appears.

     2. Select the target destination, and then rename the file name (.zip), if necessary.

     3. Click Save.

   • Recently used menu items

     Choose the number of recent menus items to show in System Administration & Diagnostics. This value is used by recent backups and recent sessions. The range is 1 through 20; the default value is 5.

     To change the setting:

     Type the value you want to use, and then click OK.

   • Connection Options

     Choose whether the following actions occur automatically upon startup or upon choosing a new connection or editing the active connection:

     • Connect to the system connection: It is enabled (selected) by default.

     • Start system monitoring: It is disabled (cleared) by default.

     • Launch DB Programming: It is disabled (cleared) by default.

     To change the setting:

     Select or clear the option, and then click OK.

4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
