When you cannot access the system over the public Internet, use modem access to the system database to program the system or perform maintenance and diagnostics tasks. This allows flexibility in making database changes without visiting the site and, in system trouble situations, the service personnel may perform preliminary investigations before going on site. You can connect directly to the system using the built-in modem. For more information and complete modem kit instructions, refer to the Modem Kit Installation and Troubleshooting for Mitel 5000 and Inter-Tel Axxess, part number 835.1621-11.
To make the remote programming feature available for use with the modem, assign a direct ring-in phone number for the modem, and program the 5000 CP so that this number rings the modem extension directly. To use the modem, on a PC with a built-in or external modem, create a connection with Mitel System Administration & Diagnostics using the Modem off-site connection type, and assign the direct ring-in number to the connection. When the System Administration & Diagnostics application connects to the system, it will automatically use the modem to call the assigned number. This will ring-in to the system, into the modem extension, causing the system modem to answer the call. The modem connection is then established and diagnostics or DB programming can proceed. When the desired monitoring or programming has been completed, be sure to disconnect from the system, which automatically terminates the modem call.
To set up or check modem settings other than the number to dial, use the interface provided by the Windows operation system as you would for any computer modem application.
If a remote programming session is active on a system, and the communications connection fails, the remote programming session is terminated.
If used, Save/Restore will take longer to perform through a modem than through a direct connection due to the slower bit rate. If the Restore function is used, the associated system reset, when completed, will disconnect all calls including the modem connection. If the modem connection is lost during the programming session, allow a minute for the system modem to reset, and then re-establish the call. All changes that were saved by a system update before the connection was lost will be retained in system memory. See Modem Troubleshooting for troubleshooting tips.
Type the number to dial to reach the 5000 CP modem (up to 128 of any characters).
If needed, click Properties to configure additional settings for the modem.
If desired, click Test offsite connection to test the modem connection.
Click OK when finished.
