The Test onsite/offsite connection button is available only when valid programming is entered for the entire connection (both onsite and offsite) and all other fields as well. Clicking one of the buttons further validates the connection programming by attempting to connect to the 5000 CP system. See Adding/Editing Connections for information about connecting or editing a system.
When you click to test a connection, the System Administration & Diagnostics application checks if the connection is in use and considers whether the test can be allowed and which warning message, if any, is needed.
The following table shows the test processing and warning messages that may appear in the warning message box. The possible situations are listed in order of precedence, highest to lowest. If more than one situation applies, the message box prompt and operation for the situation listed highest in the table is used.
Table: Test Onsite/Offsite Connection Warnings and Operation

DB Programminga |
<connection name> is in use by DB Programming. Before you disconnect and test the <connection name> connection, you must terminate the DB Programming session. (Test anyway / Cancel) |
The connection is closed. Monitoring stops. DB Programming and any other applications are left running, but their links go down. The test begins. |

a. Because DB Programming may be in the middle of processing a restore or other update, the System Administration & Diagnostics application does not blindly force it to terminate. Verify that DB Programming is not busy, and the end the session.
b. The list of applications that may be using the connection may include one or more of the following: AWS Web page, SSH connection, Diagnostics Monitor. System Administration & Diagnostics checks for these applications at least as reliably as DB Programming did in versions 3.0 through 3.2. If applications other than those listed are using the connection, they may not be detected. Also if the AWS Web page is open for any 5000 CP, because the IP address is not internally visible to System Administration & Diagnostics, it is listed as an application possibly using the connection.
Click Test Onsite Connection or Test Offsite Connection in the Add/Edit System Connection dialog box. The Test Connection dialog box appears.
The Information bar appearing in the Test Connection window is almost identical to that appearing in the main System Administration & Diagnostics window. The only difference is in the buttons at the far right in the bar. On this window, the buttons appear below the bar, rather than in the bar. Otherwise, appearance and operation are the same.
If the connection succeeds, the following window appears. At this point, diagnostics are not active. Also note that a warning condition may exist, in which case the bar will be yellow and the text will explain the warning.
Do one of the following:
While connecting, you can click to see the expansion area of the Information bar. To abort the test, click Cancel.
If the test fails for any reason, the Information bar in the Test Connection window displays the failure and no check boxes will be offered. Whenever there is a warning or failure displayed, you can click to see the expansion area of the Information bar.
To retry the connection, click Retry.
To cancel the connection, click Close.
