1812-(01-06): Jitter Maximum [System: VoIP: Profile (1-4): Codecs (1812): Jitter Maximum]

For an Adaptive Jitter Buffer, the Jitter Maximum setting is the maximum jitter buffer size allowed. Set this option separately for each CODEC in the profile. Additionally, set the jitter buffer type (mode) for each profile in 1813-01: Jitter Mode. All CODECs in the profile use the selected jitter buffer mode.

Jitter Buffer Overview

The jitter buffer is a storage are that the system uses to compensate for the delays and packet losses that are inherent in VoIP communication. The jitter buffer collects the data received and passes it to the system in a way that minimizes speech delays and other audio artifacts. This buffer process continues for the duration of the call.

There are two types of jitter buffers: static and adaptive. A static jitter buffer is always the same size. An adaptive jitter buffer adjusts its minimum and maximum size (i.e., depth) to compensate for the unique characteristics of each call. The adaptive jitter buffer is more effective and provides more natural speech. Although supported by the DSX IP Keyset, both buffer types may not be supported by third-party SIP SLTs.
